Os Amigos do Gaspar: Uma Reunião na Cidade, directed by Duarte Coimbra, a musical film that revisits, more than thirty years later, the children’s programme that marked the imagination of a generation, bringing back iconic characters from the series created by João Paulo Seara Cardoso and Jorge Constante Pereira.

Based on the album Sérgio Godinho Canta com Os Amigos do Gaspar(1988) — which immortalised songs such as “É Tão Bom” and “Canção dos Abraços” — the film brings Gaspar and his companions back to life in stories set in the streets and places of Porto today. We meet Marta and Manjerico again, the sailor Pires and his love for Mrs Felismina, the greedy Farturas and the unmistakable Guarda Serôdio, always ruthless when it comes to wrongdoing. This brings together the old group of friends, recovering affections and ideas about life together in the city that still make us think and laugh today.

Involving members of the original team and new actors, this film project is the result of research and restoration work on the original puppets carried out throughout 2022, with the involvement of the series’ authors.
